Mission Innovation
Working to reinvigorate and accelerate global clean energy innovation
Mission Innovation (MI) is a global initiative of 24 countries and the European Commission (on behalf of the European Union) working to reinvigorate and accelerate global clean energy innovation with the objective to make clean energy widely affordable. MI was announced at COP21 on 30 November 2015, as world leaders came together in Paris to commit to seek to double their governmental and/or state-directed clean energy research, development and demonstration (RD&D) investments over five years. The IEA is supporting MI members to strengthen the collection of RD&D data and to facilitate improved tracking of public and private sector RD&D investment at a national and global level. IEA analytical expertise is also leveraged to inform activities under MI Innovation Challenges, and to facilitate greater multi-lateral cooperation with the Technology Collaboration Programme by the IEA.
