11th annual IEA-EPRI Challenges in Electricity Decarbonisation Workshop

The 11th annual Challenges in Electricity Decarbonisation workshop, hosted by the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the EPRI will take place from Tuesday 17 September 14:00 to Wednesday 18 September 13:00.

This invitation-only workshop brings together together policy makers, regulators, industry and academics to discuss key topics for the power sector throughout its transition.

Organised in the wake of IEA's Electricity Security Advisory Board, the workshop will deepen the discussions on power markets design, the impact of Artificial Intelligence and trend of resources decentralisation.

The workshop combines presentations based on recent experience and research with interactive discussions, held under the Chatham House Rule.

The workshop will include keynotes by Professor Melissa Lott, Director of Research, Centre on Global Energy Policy and Arshad Mansoor, President and CEO, EPRI.

The discussions will be organised in thematic sessions, including:

• Power market designs for secure transitions: what market design features contribute efficiently to the emergence of the solutions needed to securely decarbonise the power sector.
• Secure electricity in the era of Artificial Intelligence: how digitalisation is affecting the power sector and how to embrace the opportunities brought by AI.
• How decentralisation can improve power system resilience: role of resources aggregation and virtual power plants, and how to ensure sustainable business models. This session will have a special focus on the electricity system of Ukraine. 

Presentations from the workshop will be made available on this page after the workshop, upon approval from presenters.
