Event — Buenos Aires, Argentina

4th IEA Unconventional Gas Forum

Background

The 4th IEA Unconventional Gas Forum took place on 21 April 2016 and was co-hosted by the IEA and the Argentinian Oil & Gas Institute (IAPG), with the support of the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Argentina and the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). From the IEA side, the event also enjoyed the support of the IEA Technology Collaboration Programme on Gas and Oil.

The Forum in Buenos Aires focused on the prospects for unconventional gas in Argentina and Latin America. It discussed the nature and extent of regional unconventional gas resources, examine policies that could enable these resources to be developed and consider the potential impact on the Argentinian and regional energy outlook and on international energy dynamics. Discussions on the overall context for gas market development and on the social and environmental aspects of unconventional gas production, including public and private sector responsibilities in these areas, are central to the work of the Forum.

The Forum itself gathered many high-level participants from governments, international bodies, industry, non-governmental organisations and academia from member and non-member countries, with strong representation from across the Argentinian energy sector. The forum is informal in nature and will be held under the Chatham House Rule. Attendance is by invitation only.
