Beyond COP28: Time to Unite, Act, and Deliver on the UAE Consensus
Background information
The COP28 climate change conference in Dubai resulted in December in an important agreement by close to 200 countries, known as the UAE Consensus. In his first major public engagement with the energy and climate communities since then, COP28 President Sultan Al Jaber will provide keynote remarks at a high-level roundtable hosted by IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol to discuss how countries can deliver on the key energy and climate commitments of COP28 through concrete actions aimed at keeping the 1.5 °C goal within reach.
They will be joined by key energy and climate leaders, including US Special Presidential Climate Envoy John Kerry, COP21 President and former French Prime Minister Laurent Fabius, Danish Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy Dan Jørgensen, German Special Envoy for International Climate Action Jennifer Morgan, Brazilian National Secretary for Climate Change Ana Toni, Azerbaijani COP29 Lead Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev, and UN Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Climate Action and Just Transition Selwin Hart – as well as Ambassadors from countries around the world, international thought leaders and energy industry executives.
Attendance is by invitation only. The opening segment of the roundtable, including remarks by key speakers, will be livestreamed. The roundtable will begin at 9:00 AM on Tuesday 20 February.
