Cambodia Clean Energy Week– The role of gas in Cambodia’s future power system

Background information

The IEA joined EnergyLab at Cambodia Clean Energy Week in a session on the role of gas in Cambodia in order to integrate renewable energy. The IEA has a long-standing work programme in ASEAN on renewables integration, and has been very active in the topic of commercial and institutional structures’ role in increasing flexibility of the power systems. In this session Randi Kristiansen shared insights with an audience including Ministry officials and private sector participants on the importance of contractual flexibility in order to integrate renewable energy. Contractual flexibility needs to go hand in hand with technical flexibility and holistic power system approaches in order to achieve a clean, affordable and secure energy transition. This session shared findings on this topic from around the world in order to increase awareness on the importance of the issue.

The IEA's participation in this event was made possible through the Clean Energy Transitions in Emerging Economies programme, which received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 952363.
