Clean Energy Transitions in Emerging Economies: closing workshop
Background
The event took place on Wednesday, 14 September 2022 in hybrid form in Brussels and online and was co-hosted by the European Commission and the International Energy Agency. It was an important opportunity to demonstrate the depth and breadth of the work undertaken for the Clean Energy Transitions in Emerging Economies Action, a programme funded under Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme that has allowed the IEA to provide tailor-made advice to policy makers assisting a select number of governments in implementing actions to fulfil national and global clean energy and climate targets in line with the Paris agreement. As this Action is coming to an end, this workshop was organised to showcase some of its outputs.
Opened by Ms Mary Warlick, Deputy Executive Director, IEA and Ms Mechthild Wörsdörfer, Deputy Director-General – Directorate-General Energy, the workshop also presented some case studies from Brazil, India and Indonesia. Keynote speeches were provided by Triharyo Soesilo, Special Advisor to Minister for Acceleration of Infrastructure Development & Investment, MEMR; Thiago Barral, President, Energy Research Office (EPE) of Brazil and Arunabha Ghosh, CEO of the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW).
The impact of the Action achieved thanks to leveraging IEA communications channels was also presented.
