Global Ministerial Conference on System Integration of Renewables

Background

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and the International Energy Agency are jointly hosting a Global Ministerial Conference on System Integration of Renewables at BMWi Headquarters in Berlin, Germany, on Tuesday 1 October 2019.

The German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Mr Peter Altmaier, and IEA Executive Director, Dr Fatih Birol, will open the invitation-only event, which will feature Ministers, CEOs and senior executives of international organisations.

Wind and solar PV are rapidly transforming power mixes worldwide, requiring more system flexibility in order to be integrated in a secure and cost-effective manner. The IEA has been working on system integration of renewables for more than a decade. Drawing on this extensive experience and driven by significant and increasing country interest in the topic, the conference aims to share best practices and shift global narratives on system integration of renewables from 'challenges' to 'opportunities'.
