IEA at COP29: Realising Decent Jobs and Social Inclusion in the Clean Energy Workforce

Background information

Baku time: 11:30-12:30

As energy transitions advance, strengthening processes to ensure that workers and employers fully participate in the planning them is crucial, as is ensuring that the global energy workforce is adequately trained to respond to demand for future skills. Integrating social inclusion into the design of workforce development policies is also essential to maximise the benefits of job creation and enhance equality. Building on the work of the IEA's Global Commission on People-Centred Clean Energy Transitions: Designing for Fairness, this side event will explore the findings and lessons from the Commission's first phase of deliberations on ensuring a people-centred transition, specifically in the employment sector. It will provide a platform for governments, trade union leaders and youth representatives to discuss how to engage workers and other key stakeholders in workforce policy planning and to ensure decent and socially inclusive jobs are realised in the clean energy economy.
