Mobilising investors to finance clean energy transitions
The Clean Energy Ministerial Investment and Finance (CEM IF) initiative is hosting a discussion on energy investment and institutional investors. IEA’s World Energy Investment points to the Covid-19 pandemic causing energy investment to fall 20% this year. Clean energy remains more resilient than fossil fuels, but investments in renewables, efficiency and infrastructure, e.g. grids, are also set to decline. Such investments can make financial sense for investors, and demand for sustainable finance is growing. Still, current signals are not incentivising major reallocation of capital required to achieve Paris Agreement goals.
This event will discuss how the crisis is shaping investment decisions and how governments can help harness the power of investors to support sustainable economic recovery. Speakers and panellists include:
- Hanne Jersild, Chief Adviser, Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities, Government of Denmark
- Simon Sharpe, Deputy Director of COP26 Policy Themes, UK Cabinet Office
- Torsten Fels, Chief Executive Officer, PenSam
- Roelfien Kuijpers, Managing Director, Head of Responsible Investments, DWS
