Reduced connection costs for offshore wind power (draft)

Source: IEA/IRENA Renewables Policies Database
Last updated: 23 March 2022

The Swedish government has proposed reducing connection costs for offshore wind as part of a new energy agreement. The memorandum proposes that the Swedish Power Grid is tasked with expanding the transmission network (backbone) to areas within Sweden's maritime territory.

By expanding the transmission network within Sweden's maritime territory, the costs of connecting offshore electricity generation plants to the transmission network are reduced. This creates a more level playing field for connection between offshore and onshore wind power.

The amendment to the Swedish Power Grid Instruction is proposed to enter into force on 1 August 2021 and the proposal is for consultation until 3 May 2021.
