Indigenous Off-Diesel Initiative

The Ministry of Natural Resources announced that 14 projects in the Indigenous Off-Diesel Initiative (IODI) are moving to Phase 2. The projects have received CAD 500,000 in funding to develop a community energy plan, identify and deliver training, and develop a detailed clean energy implementation plan. 

 

The IODI is a CAD 20 million Impact Canada Initiative aiming to reduce diesel reliance in remote Indigenous Communities. The initiative was designed based on 18 months of engagement with rights holders, Indigenous organizations and stakeholders. The IODI is delivered in collaboration with the Indigenous Clean Energy Social Enterprise and the Pembina Institute.

On 1st June 2022, the Ministry announced its continued support for Indigenous-led Clean Energy Projects. The 14 Indigenous energy champions will begin implementing clean energy projects with a total investment of CAD 21.6 million, and each project will receive up to 1.6 million CAD in funding.
