Draft legislation: The Motor Fuel (Composition and Content) and Biofuel (Labelling) Amendment Regulations 2021
The legislation by the UK government would amend "The Motor Fuel (Composition and Content) Regulations 1999" and require the introduction of E10 petrol (petrol with up to 10% ethanol) at filling stations in the UK. The current petrol contains up to 5% ethanol (E5).
The switch to E10 would reduce carbon emissions from petrol vehicles by around 2%, and support the UK ethanol industry.
This amendment to the Biofuel (Labelling) Regulations 2004 would change the consumer message that must be displayed when E10 petrol is sold at filling stations, and help consumers make more informed choices.
