Support scheme for bio-CCS

Last updated: 7 July 2023

The Swedish government has decided to provide subsidies to players investing in bio-CCS facilities, the process of capturing, separating and storing CO2 from renewable sources. A reverse auction will determine which players can perform bio-CCS at the lowest cost, with companies bidding on how much CO2 they can capture. The winner of the tender receives the support. The first auction is taking place in 2023. As it takes about three years to perform to organise the project, the storage and the payment of the support might take place not before 2026.

Sweden is the first country to develop a support-scheme for bio-CCS.
