Government measures to face the energy crisis (2) - Council of Ministers on 14 March 2022

On 14 March 2022, the Belgian government agreed on a new package of measures to face high energy prices:

  • The temporary reduction of VAT on electricity from 21% to 6% is extended until 30 September 2022
  • A similar temporary reduction of VAT from 21% to 6% is applied on gas and heat from 1 April to 30 September 2022
  • A EUR 200 allocation is granted for households heating with heating oil or propane in bulk
  • A temporary reduction of EUR 0.175/liter of excise duty on diesel on petrol from 16 March to 30 September 2022, which will not apply as soon as the price at the pump drops to EUR 1.70/liter
  • A further extension of the enlarged social tariff until 30 September 2022
