Plan for Expanding Biofuel Ethanol Production and Promoting Ethanol Usage in Motor Vehicles

In September 2017, the Chinese government announced a new nationwide ethanol mandate that expands the use of E10 fuel (gasoline containing 10 percent ethanol) from 11 trial provinces to the entire country by 2020. The plan also aims to develop advanced ethanol production capacity, targeting demonstration of 50,000-ton cellulosic ethanol plant by 2020, and strive to achieve large-scale production of cellulosic ethanol by 2025.
