"Hoy No Circula" Programme

The City of Mexico introduced in May 2019 a programme aiming to reduce traffic and air pollution, and prioritising more sustainable modes of transportation.

The programme is based on the use of Hologram stickers which determine circulation restrictions: 

• "00" for new vehicles (no circulation restrictions)
• "0" for 0-8 year-old vehicles (no circulation restrictions)
• "1" for 9-15 year-old vehicles ( circulation only authorised one working day a week and two Sundays a month)
• "2" for vehicles older than 15 years ( circulation only authorised one working day a week)

Additional circulation limits are set up on certain days for each group. The Programme does not apply to motorcycles and electric or hybrid vehicles.
