Energy price compensation for households

Last updated: 9 May 2023

The Government of Estonia put in place a compensation scheme for households for energy consumed between 1 October 2022 and 31 March 2023 to cushion the effects of rising energy prices.

In case the monthly average price of electricity without VAT exceeds 8 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh), consumers will receive a subsidy of up to 5 cents/kWh. For gas and district heating, the state compensates up to 80 percent of the part of the average monthly price that exceeds 80 euros/MWh without VAT, or 0.7744 euros per cubic meter.

The subsidies are provided by automatic reduction of electricity, gas or district heating bills.
