State aid for energy costs of energy intensive sectors

The Polish Government allocated PLN 5 billion in state aid for energy intensive industrial companies to help cover the increases in natural gas and electricity costs incurred in 2022. The aid is disbursed by the Ministry of Development and Technology from February 2023 to eligible undertakings with annual electricity consumption of more than 20 TWh, whose electricity or gas prices have increased by 50% compared to the average price in 2021.

The amount of support covers up to 50% of eligible costs incurred from February to December 2022, in the maximum amount of EUR 4 million per undertaking. In case the undertaking had a decrease in earnings of at least 40% between 2021 and 2022 or had negative earnings, the amount is increased to 80% of eligible costs and up to EUR 50 million per undertaking.
