Fuel Subsidy on Electricity Bill

Last updated: 25 May 2023

In 2022, The Malaysian Government continued to subsidise electricity bills through the Imbalance of Cost Pass-Through (ICPT) rates for all customers despite the rising price of fuel and generation costs.
The government set the ICPT into two categories, with a rate of RM 0.02/kWh for residential and RM 0.037/kWh for non-residential.

From January 2023, a new mechanism was introduced for non-domestic users, classifying them into lower, medium or high voltage categories. Medium and high voltage users are set to a RM 0.2 surcharge per kWh.
