Last updated: 16 May 2023

The New Zealand Energy Strategy, led by the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment (MBIE), aims to transition New Zealand to a net-zero carbon economy by 2050. The strategy focuses on energy affordability, security, and supporting economic development while moving away from fossil fuels and increasing renewable electricity and low-emission alternatives. Developed in two phases by the end of 2024, the strategy will explore potential future scenarios and set a path towards achieving its objectives.
