Plug-in-Grant

Last updated: 4 July 2024

Established in 2017, the UK Plug-in-Grant scheme enabled the embedding of a government subsidy in the retail price of electric and hybrid vehicles, enabling consumers to purchase them at a reduced cost. Eligible vehicles included wheelchair accessible vehicles, motorcycles and mopeds, vans, trucks, and taxis. The maximum discount ranges from £500 to £16,000 depending on the type of the vehicle.

In 2022, additional funding was allocated for taxis, motorcycles, vans, and trucks, as well as making more wheelchair accessible vehicles available. The scheme was closed in June of that year, but remains in force for wheelchair accessible vehicles.
