"Critical metals" call for projects

Last updated: 9 December 2023

The "Critical Metals" call for projects, organised by the French Public Investment Bank (BPI France) is a government aid system that is part of the France 2030 Investment Plan.
The call’s objective is to reduce industry's dependence on critical metals in line with the priority policies of France in the fields of industry, the environment and climate. Projects are expected to be ambitious initiatives that can be rapidly industrialised in France, either by emerging players with the potential to become world-class competitors, or by existing players with an excellent track record.
Projects should focus on the production of primary and recycled metals, the development of methods, technologies and processes to digitise and automate the production of raw materials or on the use of metals, to reduce dependence on metals by focusing on specific consumption, volumes required, sufficient qualities and possible substitutions for the same function supplied to the customer.
Five selected companies have already been announced, covering lithium extraction, refining, battery and electric devices recycling. The "Critical Metals" call for projects is open until January 30, 2024.
