APEC Joint Statement on Accelerating Methane Mitigation from the LNG Value Chain

The governments of Australia, Canada, Chile, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Chinese Taipei and the United States signed this joint statement on the margins of the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation Senior Officials’ and Ministerial Meetings in Seattle, Washington. In recognition of the need to address methane emissions in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) value chain, the signatory parties expressed their intention to collaborate on reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in LNG imports and exports and reaffirmed their commitment to the Global Methane Pledge. The parties also affirmed their support for the creation of an internationally aligned voluntary approach for the measurement, monitoring, reporting and verification of GHG emissions across the international supply chain for natural gas.
