Last updated: 5 November 2017
The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) was directed to update energy efficiency standards for all public and assisted housing by the 2007 EISA. In May, 2015, HUD and USDA published a final determination to use the 2009 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (2009 IECC) and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers standard 90.1-2007 (ASHRAE 90.1-2007). The new codes apply only to new construction of single- or multi-family homes that are assisted or insured by FHA or single-family homes guaranteed by USDA in the 16 states that have not yet adopted these or more recent codes.
