Transport for Ireland Local Link
The National Transport Authority’s (NTA) Transport for Ireland (TFI) Local Link Rural Transport Programme is managed and administered by 15 Transport Coordination Units nationwide, also known as Local Link Offices. Bus services are branded as TFI Local Link and operate two types of services: Regular Rural Services (RRS) which operate a fixed route with a more frequent timetable and Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) services which operate a flexible route, door to door where possible with frequencies ranging from once a week to daily. There are a range of services in operation which allow passengers to travel from their local village or town for business, shopping, healthcare or to connect with the national bus and train network. To address specific concerns in rural areas, the Department of Transport has secured increased funding to improve rural transport services across the country, with funding increasing from €12m in 2016 to €57m in 2024. Passenger numbers have increased from 1.76 million passengers in 2015 to 3.2 million in 2023.
