Low-energy building in the building stock
The "low-energy building in the building stock € pilot projects of the German Energy Agency on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS) for residential- and non-residential buildings are targeted with the help of planning aids, public relations work, guides and brochures at specialist designers, architects, craftsmen and construction project sponsors. The aim is to speed up transfer of knowledge about construction of low-energy buildings, to establish exacting energy-efficient redevelopmentstandards on the market, and to advertise, develop and launch on the market innovative technologies related to energy-efficient building redevelopment. The aim is to encourage imitation by means of transferable, economically viable redevelopment recommendations and examples. The residential property construction companies carry out their restructuring measures themselves. A bandwagon effect in energy-efficient redevelopment is observable and efficient building standards have been established in the market. More than 350 residential buildings and over 90 non-residential buildings have demonstrated that energy-saving construction methods can significantly reduce the energy requirement. A total of 6,300 residential units with about 350,000 m ² of floorspace were optimised for energy efficiency in the course of the project. On average the latter undercut the energy consumption requirements of comparable new buildings by 62 %.
