Import tax reduction

In its 2011 budget, the Malaysian Government granted a full exemption on import tax and a 50%reduction in excise duty for HEVs and PHEVs with 2.0 litre or smaller internal-combustion engines; theincentives were extended again until the end of 2013 in its 2012 budget. Malaysia’s third NationalAutomotive Policy (NAP), launched in January 2014, exempted all excise duties and taxes on domesticallyassembled hybrids until 31 December 2015 and until 31 December 2017 for BEVs (Mohamed, 2014).
