Standards & Labelling Programme

The S&L Programme introduces MEPS and labelling in 2013 and SABS has selected 10 products to be regulated under the mandatory S&L program, to be introduced through SANS 941 and labelling through SAS 60043.

 

The products selected are: residential refrigerators (fridges, freezers, and their combination), washing machines and dishwashers, room air conditioners, electric stoves, ovens, and hobs, and electric water heaters.

 

This will enter into force in three phases:

• Phase 1: Six (6) months after the publication of this notice for audio, video and related equipment. Products that are already in the market and approved by the NRCS for safety requirements are to comply with this compulsory specification twelve (12) months after the publication of this notice.
• Phase 2: Nine (9) months after the publication of this notice for electric ovens, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, tumble dryers, washer-dryer combinations and washing machines. Products that are already in the market and approved by the NRCS for safety requirements are to comply with this compulsory specification twelve (12) months after the publication of this notice.
• Phase 3: Eighteen (18) months after the publication of this notice for air conditioners and heat pumps.
