Asia-Pacific Partnership for Clean Development and Climate
The Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate (APP) brings together Australia, Canada, China, India, Japan, South Korea and the United States to address the challenges of climate change, energy security and air pollution in a way that encourages economic development and reduces poverty. The APP represents around half of the world's emissions, energy use, GDP and population, and is an important initiative that engages, for the first time, the key greenhouse gas emitting countries in the Asia Pacific region. With its focus on the development, deployment and transfer of cleaner, more efficient technologies, the APP is also unprecedented in the way business, government and researchers have agreed to work together. The partnership established eight public-private sector Task Forces covering (1) cleaner fossil energy; (2) renewable energy and distributed generation; (3) power generation and transmission; (4) steel; (5) aluminium; (6) cement; (7) coal mining; and (8) buildings and appliances.
