Source: International Energy Agency
Last updated: 15 February 2022

Governs the licensing and safety requirements for gas installation, operation and supply in Tasmania. Establishes the investigative powers of Gas Officers and the ability to declare gas operations as unsafe, resulting in the restriction of gas supply.

In order for proponents to be granted a license to carry out their activities, they must submit a safety case to the Director of Gas Safety with a determination and the codes and standards to be complied with in the regulations. This safety case must be verified by an independent third party before being submitted to the Director.

Grants investigative powers to authorised gas officers to monitor compliance with the Act and its subsequent regulations. Grants the power to halt gas operations in the event of non-compliance.

Governed by Tasmanian Economic Regulator and Director of Gas Safety.
