This regulation oversees the environmental planning submission requirements for petroleum and geothermal project licenses in Western Australia. It includes the need for an environmental assessment and provisions on continued reporting and applicable penalties.
Its objective is to ensure that any petroleum or geothermal activity is carried out in a manner consistent with the principles of ecologically sustainable development; in accordance with an environment plan that demonstrates environmental impacts and risks will be reduced to as low as is reasonably practicable, and defines appropriate environmental performance objectives and standards as well as related measurement criteria.
The regulation also requires that operators monitor and report emissions, including operational emissions to the atmosphere.
