Background information
The clean energy transition is reshaping the outlook for shipping, shifting global trade routes and slowing down the growth in shipping activity seen in recent years, despite an increase in trade in clean energy technologies.
This webinar will explore the critical role of shipping in global trade and the transformative shift towards a decarbonised energy system from Energy Technology Perspectives 2024, the latest edition of the IEA’s flagship technology publication. The report maps out the evolving role of manufacturing and international trade in clean energy technologies and related materials, with the aim of supporting decision-making in these areas.
Authors of the report will present new analysis on maritime trade today and the future outlook for shipping, including for traffic through certain strategic chokepoints. Alongside distinguished external experts, the discussion will delve into key themes including prospects for emissions reductions from international shipping, including the future of low-emissions fuels bunkering, the impact of fossil fuel demand decline on shipping activity and more. Attendees will be given a chance to comment and ask questions during a Q&A session.
