IEA Executive Director meets Korean Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Paik Ungyu

SEOUL – Dr Fatih Birol, the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, met with Korea’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Paik Ungyu today to review developments in the global energy markets.

The discussions between Dr Birol and Minister Paik were wide ranging, and covered a variety of topics, including Korea’s energy policy, the latest developments in the global energy scene, the IEA’s modernization agenda, and the IEA’s upcoming 2017 Ministerial Meeting.

Earlier, Dr Birol gave the keynote address at the World Knowledge Forum in front of about 300 participants. The topic of his speech was “Global Energy Markets in Transition: implications for the economy, environment and the geopolitics.”

During his visit to Seoul, Dr Birol also met with Mr. Cho Hyun, Korea’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs.
