IEA: IPCC report emphasises need for energy sector transformation

The International Energy Agency (IEA) welcomes the release of the first part of the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change assessing the evidence for climate change and its causes. The findings re-emphasise the urgent need of enabling a global transition to clean energy systems.
 
”Every year that passes, scientific evidence for anthropogenic climate change increases, yet action to transform the way we produce and consume energy is slow. Energy accounts for two-thirds of global greenhouse gas emissions and as such its role is central in tackling climate change.” said Maria van der Hoeven, Executive Director of the IEA.

”The IEA will continue to  support governments and the energy sector in solving the technical and policy challenges to delivering secure, affordable energy during this transition, and to become more resilient to those climate impacts that we are already experiencing.”
