Promotion of Combined Heat and Power (CHP)
The Electricity Law of 2002 required the Hungarian electricity transmission company (MAVIR) and electricity distribution companies to purchase electricity produced from renewable sources and from small scale CHP at minimum guaranteed prices, or market prices above the given limits. The electricity produced by CHPs is guaranteed a preferential purchase price, though such price may be paid only in case of satisfying real heat demands. The law covers both combined heat and power generation generated in power plant units of capacity no larger than 6 MW and electricity generation from renewable energy sources. Targetted activities: - district heating, - non-district heating combined heat energy generation, - use of renewable energy sources (solar energy, wind energy, hydro power, biomass, biogas, geothermal energy, gas from waste deposits, gas from sewage water treating facilities).
