Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA)
The Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA) entered into force in December 2008.
It provides for the gradual elimination of border tariffs for most energy products, including : iron, metals, steel, battery packs and cells, anodes, heat pumps, electric cars, and ICE cars.
Specific rule of origins delineated in the Agreement provide that in order to qualify for preferential tariff treatment, goods must be wholly produced in one of the Parties' territories, or have undergone there a significant production process (entailing a change in tariff classification), or satisfy a 40% minimum local value content requirement.
