Pakistan Import Policy Order 2022

Last updated: 27 October 2024

Import Policy Order 2022 lists goods that are banned for import into the country, except where import is specifically authorised by the government of Pakistan.

Appendix-C particularly lists items that are prohibited for import even in used or second hand condition such as buses not older than three years, vehicles not more than five years old and steel scrap from auto parts.

This order supplements Pakistan Environmental Protection Act 1997, which provides for the protection, conservation, and improvement of the environment, for the prevention and control of pollution, and promotion of sustainable development. According to the Act, the import of hazardous waste into Pakistan, its territorial waters, exclusive economic zone and historic waters is prohibited. In addition, the Act imposes a license requirement to generate, collect, consign, transport, treat, dispose of, store, handle, or import any hazardous substance.

Hazardous waste is defined to mean waste that contains a hazardous substance, that is a substance which, by reason of its chemical activity or toxic, explosive, flammable, corrosive, radioactive or other characteristics causes, or is likely to cause, directly or in combination with other matters, an adverse environmental effect.
