National Energy Efficiency Program for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s)

It supports the industrial SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) through financing schemes with attractive rates to replace inefficient equipment such as: commercial refrigerators, air conditioners, lighting (LED, T8/T5), electric motors and substations, and capacitor banks for those more energy efficient.
Financing program focused on micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) for the acquisition of efficient equipment in energy terms and thus replace inefficient equipment (FIDE, 2014).
The program is operated by the Fideicomiso para el Ahorro de Energía Eléctrica (FIDE), but in its implementation the Energy Secretariat (SENER) and the Ministry of Economy (SE) participate as contributors of the resources, Nacional Financiera (NAFIN), which administers the line of credit and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) that collects the loan through the electricity billing receipt (FIDE, 2014).
At the beginning of 2018, the program had helped to replace more than 37 thousand electrical equipment, most of which were commercial refrigeration equipment (8.6 out of 10 units are commercial refrigerators), followed by air conditioning from 1 to 10 TR (9%). ) and lighting systems (linear type T5 and T8, LED and magnetic induction) (Table IV.2) (SENER, 2017).
Regarding the design of the program and the analysis of the environmental impacts during the life cycle of the equipment, the most advanced thing is that the program considers an "energy incentive" equivalent to 10% of the value of the equipment financed (the which is subtracted from the amount of the credit received) that it assumes covers the costs for the proper handling of the replaced equipment.
