Shandong Province Village Renewable Energy Regulations
The Shandong Province Village Renewable Energy Regulations took effect on 1 January 2008, providing subsidies for specified renewable energy technologies in farming villages. The regulations require that governments at the county level and higher must incorporate special funds into their yearly budgets, which will be used to subsidise renewable energy facility construction in farming villages. Projects eligible for subsidies include production of methane gas from animal and agricultural waste, as well as garbage. The methane can be used to produce power directly. Subsidies will also be provided to villages that use solar power for heat and hot water provision in new or renovated public buildings, such as schools, hospitals and old-age homes. The regulations also apply to any non-fossil fuel energy source, including solar, wind, geothermal, hydro, biomass and ocean wave energy.
